On the shore of Lake Ladoga

By Valeriia Temkina

In my work I primarily deal with the themes of memory, locality, and "difficult heritage". The photos were taken on the shore of Lake Ladoga, where the Vuokhensalo lighthouse stands. But it is hidden in the fog. And when the fog cleared, I ran out of film.

So all I have is a "feeling" that the lighthouse is somewhere out there.  It's like they could be taken almost anywhere in the world, and it's unclear where the world's boundaries end. Perhaps this is a new beginning, not an end: as the world undergoes global changes today, we seem to be wandering in a fog - however, we cling to familiar landmarks.
