Corrimony
/By R S Kendle
hush of pine and heath
fills this musty mouth
cavernous lips part
swallow the midwinter sun
gathered with intention
each stone thrums with longing
surrenders each name
to the wings of owls
we divine for meaning
trace lithic memories
lay out offerings, grave goods,
burnished with embers of long-stilled love
imprinted into the earth
the echoes of a person forgotten
we are all reborn
in the arms of our last mother
slick with wet earth
she claims us as her own
cradles our inert bones
that we may return to stillness
